We, too, used to frequent Shen Yang (which was also named "Yummi" {sp?} at one time), and were sad when it closed. We're native Bostonian and New Yorker, and lived for decades in San Francisco, which are all dim-sum-lover-friendly places, and can vouch that On Time Seafood, while not the absolute best available on the planet, does quite well to very well in its dim sum offerings. Getting right down to eating very soon after being seated is easiest on Saturdays and Sundays, when the steam carts come around quickly, but a caveat is that some of the items might have cooled down a bit by then, and dim sum is at its best when piping hot. Don't forget to create a pucddle of soy sauce on your plate, with a dash of vinegar (in tiny cruets on the table), for dipping, along with the hot red chili oil if you like your sauce to zing!direddyclarkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08623814791623516434noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-952244324226941600.post-38108381195999700432012-01-10T18:53:47.670-08:002012-01-10T18:53:47.670-08:00I've had Fat Dan's Italian Beef and it'...I've had Fat Dan's Italian Beef and it's not bad. I consider myself an Italian Beef snob and have looked for a good one in Indiana for several years. South Of Chicago finally nailed it! It's actually better than the typical beef sandwich in Chicago. I expected it to be as good as Portillo's, based on the owner's recommendation. SOC's is even better! Anyway, we got rid of that guacamole and have taken a different route. No more tomatillo! Come try the new one. It's one I much prefer.

As for the Smoking Goose Nachos, a lot of people liked them. They were to accompany our Fountain Square Tap Takeover! I'm excited for tomorrow, too. We're getting Brooklyn Lager and Three Floyds Dreadnaught Imperial IPA on tap!

Andy over at Smoking Goose is such a great guy. It was a no-brainer we'd start carrying their stuff. Their chorizo is very flavorful and I like to support local as much as possible.

We took Corey's review in stride. Fixed what we thought was negative, and changed some things for the better.

To our defense, Corey said he did enjoy his meal. He also said the service was good, as was the beer and tequila list. It sounds like what we really missed on was the guacamole and the dessert list. Both of which we are playing around with to make everyone's experience enjoyable.

Come see me at the bar when and if you do come in, Tom. I hope my thoughts don't come across as overly negative, but, as I say, I was really looking forward to giving the restaurant a try—and I was hoping to be blown away. Maybe I had unfair expectations, especially given that you guys have just opened your doors. I definitely appreciated the service. As I wrote, our waiter was quite good, and it was nice that you stopped by as well. As for the guacamole, yeah, it just wasn't my thing. I'm glad to know that it's fresh made, though, and I will amend my comments above to reflect that. Next time I stop in, I'll have to try your other style of guacamole—and some tequila, of course. That bar of yours is badass. Anyway, I wanted to thank you so much for stopping by. And I want you to know that we are improving and trying to get to where we know we can be. Yeah, it's early, but that isn't an excuse; we know we can do better. As for the guacamole. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. We have another kind that I'm sure you'll love and that we are actually going to start using in place of the "stringy" one. Both our freshly made, I assure you. The one you had just has a good amount of tomatillo (the stringy stuff).

Also, I hope you can come back and give us another try. I'd love to work through the menu with you to kind of bounce some ideas off of you. I'll be here waiting to greet you and hopefully rectify your unfulfilled appetite.

Oh, and by the way. Thanks for the beer shout out! It's been a labor of love of mine. And we have some really great choices, including a phenomenal tequila menu I'd love to share with you.

Take care, and get back in here and let's try this again!

Jon Carlos RangelLa Blogaritahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08300753826576142437noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-952244324226941600.post-53892996102964643712011-11-04T06:33:32.819-07:002011-11-04T06:33:32.819-07:00Hey, SkepticalGeek and Raquel02! Very authentic, flavorful, and NOT a typical Chinese Take Out in some strip-mall; but rather, a true sit-down experience.

Our favorite order is the Pork Dumplings (siu maai), which are steamed and served in a small bowl of spicy broth-like sesame sauce, an order or of Pan Fried Green-beans, and for the entrée, Chicken with Szechwan sauce. The chicken dish is bite size pieces of chicken, fried in a spicy Szechwan breading mixed with garlic slices, Thai chilies, and other seasonings. At times, it can be little saltier than I personally like it, but none the less, it’s still all so good.

Recently, we tried the Mongolian Beef, which is grilled slices of beef in a gravy-like sauce which had our taste buds jumping for more. Serve it over the free portions of white rice, and it makes for a wonderful meal. Additionally on that same trip, we ordered an entrée of Chicken Lo-mien, which we found a little disappointing. Un-flavorful, and the noodles were overcooked. Still edible, but not that great considering the other dishes we had.

Admittedly so, the wait staff may ‘forget’ about you from time to time, even with a full or empty house. We do find ourselves on occasion needing to flag down our waitress for a refill on drinks. For some foodies, this makes or breaks a eatery, but for us, I can deal with it so long as the food is good. However, once you flag down your server once, they always remember you. Best times to visit for a more ‘intimate’ atmosphere are after 8PM on Fridays and 8:30PM Saturday nights. During Prime-time, a lot of native families visit and can be noisy. The Chinese karaoke on Saturday nights in the basement is always a hoot!

Cost: You will pay a premium for good food, and this is no different. if you are looking for your typical $6.50 order of General Tso’s chicken, you won’t find it here. Appetizers start at $7 and up, sides are $8 and up and entries range from $10-14. More exotic dishes will result in a higher cost.

Over all, I love this place and I tell everyone I can about it. It’s a favorite and any other take out Chinese no longer compares. Give it a try when you can and I assure you, the food will not disappoint.

Hope this helps!

-JIndyFoodiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08434659272776182234noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-952244324226941600.post-42493445296561828332011-10-24T13:49:56.006-07:002011-10-24T13:49:56.006-07:00This comment has been removed by the author.IndyFoodiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08434659272776182234noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-952244324226941600.post-83717525824591569242011-09-29T07:06:01.668-07:002011-09-29T07:06:01.668-07:00Hi, Mr. Zilla! The soaking-in-milk and the baking steps are things that my dad has added to the process over the years. I prefer the frying/baking method described above to the just-frying method because the baking part seems to make the squirrel less greasy and more tender.
